Readfining Beauty

"To be beautiful and natural is the birthright of every woman" This was the motto of Florence Nightingale Graham, otherwise known by her business name, Elizabeth known by her business name, Elizabeth Arden. Using this motto, Elizabeth built a global business empire-and she did it by launching beauty trends we take for granted today.

In the early 1900s, makeup wasn't worn by regular women. Colors were harsh, textures were thick and blends spelled weird. Makeup looked so artificial it was worn only by actors on stage- or by prostitutes.
But Elizabeth change this. She visited Paris and saw society women wearing light powder, blusher and lip stain. It looked flattering, and natural!
Inspired, Elizabeth worked with chemists worked with chemists to create her own range of matching cosmetics. Through clever marketing campaigns, she persuaded women grooming was ladylike and good manners.
Elizabeth pioneered coordinated lip, blush and nail collections, promoted exercise for beauty, and teamed up with chemists to bring a scientific approach to skincare. And all these innovations were launched at her  New York headquarters, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, on Fifth Avenue. Today, the spa is at the same address, and with the same iconic red door.
